Solving the Cost and Speed Challenges of Static Cling Labels
Static cling labels are a powerful in-store marketing tool. They’re eye-catching, removable, and perfect for short-term promotions. But, when produced using traditional screen or offset printing methods, they can quickly become expensive and time-consuming to manufacture.
When one of Primeflex’s clients needed a high-impact static cling label with a lower price point and faster turnaround, our team stepped in to rethink the process from the ground up.
The Challenge: High Costs and Long Lead Times for Static Cling Labels
Traditionally, static cling labels (like those used on freezer doors or glass displays in grocery stores) are produced using either silkscreen or offset printing. While these methods can deliver quality results, they also come with drawbacks such as higher setup and production costs, longer lead times, and less flexibility for promotional timelines.
For this client, those limitations were a problem. They needed an affordable static cling label that could be produced quickly, without sacrificing visual quality or durability. Primeflex was asked to find a better way.
The Primeflex Solution: Flexographic Printing with Smart Layering
At Primeflex, we believe every production challenge is an opportunity to innovate. Rather than defaulting to traditional methods, our team leveraged flexographic printing to create a more efficient and cost-effective solution.
A Smarter Print Approach
Flexography naturally requires a less expensive setup than screen or offset printing, making it ideal for projects where speed and budget matter. To ensure the artwork remained vibrant and protected, we:
- Printed an opaque white layer first
- Reverse-printed the artwork onto a clear label stock
- Sealed the design beneath the plastic, protecting it from scuffs and wear
This approach delivered the look and feel of offset or screen printing at a fraction of the cost and with a much quicker turnaround time.
The Specs: Built for Performance and Visual Impact
To meet both functional and aesthetic requirements, the label was produced using the following specifications:
- 7-color print (4-color process + opaque white + 2 PMS colors)
- Full UV coating for durability
- Printed on clear polyester
- Removable static cling adhesive, ideal for glass surfaces
The result was a crisp, vibrant label that performed beautifully in retail environments while remaining easy to apply and remove.
The Impact: Faster Production, Lower Cost, Same High Quality
By switching to flexographic printing and reengineering the production process, Primeflex delivered a solution that exceeded the client’s expectations. The new approach significantly reduced production costs compared to traditional methods while also shortening turnaround times to better support fast-moving promotional campaigns. Despite the efficiencies gained, the finished labels maintained high-quality visuals with the look of screen or offset printing and were built to perform in real-world retail environments. Most importantly, the client received a durable, retail-ready static cling label solution that was reliable, repeatable, and easy to deploy for future promotions.
